Seems like they just copied pretty much every other modern military rifle, and I'm sure it will be just as mediocre as all of their other military arms. Interesting that they abandoned the bullpup though.

They developed that prior to US (and subsequently Chinese) involvement in Afganland. It was mainly designed to be used against US body armor.

No, their 5.8x42 is comparable to 5.56. They do have a 5.8 pistol round designed to fill the same role as 5.7x28.

The bullpup design seemed like something you use because you have nothing else. The Chinese military grows stronger every day as it focuses on war fighting.
