Default Anybody shoot a .38 Super?

I recently picked one up that needed parts. It is a LLAMA that looks like a 1911A-1. I almost have all the parts I need but with hunting season on us I may just shelve it for now.

I shoot 38 Super in a commander-size Dan Wesson with bobbed grip, a 5" Colt SS Competition Govt Model, and a commander-size SS Kimber Pro Carry II. All of the chambers support the cartridges on the case mouth instead of the rim, so accuracy is excellent.

I had a blued 5" Colt Series 80 Govt Model bought a couple-few yrs ago that had a 7+ lb pull and needed a trigger job to be any kind of accurate, but I have done so many 1911 trigger jobs in 45+ yrs that I just didn't have the interest or energy to do it. I traded it and a rifle in a multi-gun trade for a 4" Colt New Service in 357 Magnum, a North Haven Marlin 336Y Spikehorn, and a NIB T/C-R 22 (10/22 clone) with red dot. The DW, SS Colt Competition, and the Kimber PC II shot rings around the blued 5" Govt Model.

    Good luck with your Llama.

I have a tokarev that somebody put a .38 Super barrel in. Shoots pretty well but they put a really tall front sight on it, but left on the stock rear so it hits 12" below point of aim. I plan to mess with it quite a bit more once I finally get around to having a better rear sight installed.

I've worked on a few early ones and while similar , standard US commercial/Colt/GI parts are NOT a drop-in fit.

Llama's are kinda like the Taurus of Spanish guns. Especially the early ones. Kinda rough , soft steel , poor fitting of everything.

What brand ammo are you using? I had a Tokarev about 40 years ago when there was no ammo available, and somebody at a gunshop suggested converting to .38 Super. I don't know why anybody now would do that. The 7.62x25 is a wonderful round.
