Default Value of non functional M1 Garand?

I want to buy an M1 for a display piece. I am looking for a non functional one as it would be cheaper and I don't need to ever fire it.

But I have no idea what a good price on one would be.

Any idea of a price range? I am sure I can find the rifle. I just need help with what a reasonable offer would be.

I mean the barrel can be plugged, the firing pin can be welded in place, I don't care. As long as the stock isn't splintered beyond repair and the barrel isn't rusted solid it's good enough.

^^^ Yep, so use that as a basis of price. Secondary market, $600 or more? Actual price will depend on the value of parts on the rifle. Every one will be different for that reason. Last one that went on the CMP trader was $640 shipped.

CMP also has display rifles on walnut stands for $750. That's what I'd do, personally. Bottom of the page: https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/

I'd guess $200-300. There's at least one place that does replicas around $250, but appear to be out of stock.

But to be honest, for ~$700 you can get yourself the real deal from the CMP, and 1) it'll be worth more than you paid and 2) probably be a lot easier to sell if you ever wanted to (I cant help but think the market for a demilled one would be quite limited). I know it's more than you need, but might be a better buy, financially.

This should go into the inflation thread... the field grade Garand that they are asking for $700 was only $650 last month. Still a good deal though.
