Re: 45-70 boolits
Looks good. I use a Lee 405 gr. hb with trapdoor loads around here. 1/2ww and 1/2 pb sized with BAC lube.
They work.It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: 45-70 boolits
These are the solid base. are you using black or smokeless?
i intend to load these with smokeless reduced loads, probably unique, red dot and trailboss.

Looks great. Trail boss is my go to load for 405's.
13 grain in my marlin lever gun. Can barely feel them kick.www.Steelvalleycasting.com is your new home for coated bullets and custom ammo.

Re: 45-70 boolits
My 1888 Trapdoor needed bullets sized .462. Commercial 500gr cast bullets are generally sized .457. When fired , I could hear a 'fluttering' noise , and the bullet that were hitting the target were hitting sideways.
Sized .462 , I was getting 3-4in groups at 100yds with 60gr GOEX CTG-grade BP..I don't speak English , I talk American!

Re: 45-70 boolits
My 1888 (made in 1890) has a bore that slugs at .463". I have been paper-wrapping .458s. Register tape is .002". Wrapped and lubed, works well. I have a little IMR 4759 yet. What a shame it's discontinued.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
