Default About that nuclear power plant at Limerick

    Just a precaution.

If you live, work, or attend school within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick nuclear power plant, local health officials have a freebie for you — albeit not a sexy one.

Montgomery County’s Office of Public Health will be handing out potassium iodide tablets to those in close proximity to the Limerick Generating Station.

The distribution is part of a statewide emergency preparedness effort — the Limerick site is one of Pennsylvania’s four active nuclear power plants.

Radioactive iodine, a contaminant that could be released in the event of a nuclear accident, can increase the risk of thyroid cancer. Potassium iodide (KI) can help protect the thyroid gland against radioactive iodine.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office*s Report Recommending Improved Emergency Preparedness Surrounding Nuclear Power Stations
In March 2013, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report entitled EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: NRC Needs to Better Understand Likely Public Response to Radiological Incidents at Nuclear Power Plants. GAO prepared its report in response to the nuclear emergency that resulted from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that severely damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan, and led to the largest release of radiation since the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. As a consequence of radiation release, Japanese authorities evacuated nearly 150,000 people located within 19 miles of the stricken plant

What about the nukes aimed at the former NAS Willow Grove , Philadelphia Navy Yard , NADC Warminster , and a bunch of primary military contractors all around the area?

Although I agree with you 100%, yours was the second response about it. Just sayin'.

Used to work in the hot zone in Collegeville. Traffic so shitty on 422 there's no way to make an escape. If the SHTF, figure we'd just be the first to go...clutching our free iodine tablets.
