What discipline? USPSA will now allow .38s in Revolver class. A 5 inch 627 with minor power factor reloads doesn*t hit your wrists or the web of your hand nearly as hard as major power factor .45s. I loved my 4 inch 625. Still shoot targets with it occasionally using Clays loads that are WAY under power factor, just for the memories.

Another way to go is simply accept that your body has let you down, load powder puff .45s, declare them and take the penalties.

I'm shooting in unsanctioned local club matches so I could probably get away with any load that leaves the barrel. Penn bullets has a 152 gr. SWC that I should be able to make work. Don't have to worry about making power factor.

3.2 grains of Clays under a 230 grain round nose cast with knock down any steel they set up and still shoots pretty soft.

    But I*d still look into a 627.

    This:

is what I was referring to in the quoted post.

    And this:

was the 25-10 that positively STUNG to shoot. I am not recoil sensitive, and I have a relatively high pain threshold, but 12 rounds of standard 45 ACP out of that thing with the factory "boot" grips had my hand messed up for 2-3 weeks as I said.

I sold it to a collector for mega-bux when I read that they were kabooming:

If you use a round-butt S&W - K/L or N frame, use the Hogue Tamer Grips - the ones that are used on the X-frame Hyper-magnums. They cover the back strap and they have a softer elastomer at the top of the grip where it interfaces with the web of the hand. I have them on all my competition revolvers. I broke my thumb a couple years ago. The ligament actually pulled out a piece of the bone. Reattached with titanium screws, but it left the web of the hand somewhat devoid of padding. Using the Tamers I can get through a match with no problem. You can find them on Amazon for under $30 IIRC.

    Good luck.

Got one. 4" barrel in fact I shot it using .38 Special loads in our September match. My 986 treats me OK too. If I want .45 ACP target loads I'll go back to my old 200 gr. cast ahead 4.6 grs of W231.
