Loaning a pistol across state lines
If I'm interpreting this correctly, as long as the recipient isn't prohibited, it's legal to lend a pistol across state lines for "lawful sporting purposes." In this case, the person is a cousin who's LEOSA. Anyone read it differently?

Re: Loaning a pistol across state lines
I agree, but I seem to recall there has been some opinion (perhaps involving actual criminal charges?) where the government took a very narrow view of what qualified as "lawful sporting purpose".
Specifically, I do not believe going to the range to punch holes in paper for a couple of hours qualified. The definition was largely intended to refer to hunting, and perhaps trap shooting, or range use as part of some type of sanctioned competition, not just "Here, take my gun to the range to try it out." See links and articles below for further support of this notion.

ATF interpreted sporting purposes as being limited to certain traditional sports and not just any lawful activity the firearm may be used in.
The term "sporting purposes" is undefined by federal statute and has been subject to several reinterpretations by the ATF and its predecessor agency.Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Legal or not, the question you need to ask yourself is, do you want to take the risk. While it appears to be legal, Personally, unless it's someone i trust my life with, they don't get access to my firearms.
However, your views may be different than mine, so all i can say is be careful

In some states law enforcement may take possession of a weapon which is not theirs like in NY for instance.

What state? That makes a huge difference because even if legal, some of our neighbors do not care about what the law says and it's your hole to dig yourself out of.

Re: Loaning a pistol across state lines
Will you be with the gun?
Like a hunting trip where you have 2 guns and let a friend carry the 2nd one next to you the whole time?
Or like a "Take my firearm across state lines by yourself to do whatever" situation?
The first one I'd be fine with as long as it was all totally kosher for me to bring the guns to Delaware. The second scenario.... I wouldn't recommend doing that in any scenario to any state for any reason.

Why is "Sporting Purposes" even in any wording of laws that pertain to 2nd amendment rights. That is a false narrative created by gun banners and needs to be challenged at every possible opportunity.
