To be fair stores already do the same in the US. Any decent knife you can stab someone with is locked in a case. You have to wander around to find someone and have them unlock it just to touch one.

The lame thin /stamped/ Chinese knives in the box stores on display in the isles (which would be hard to stab someone with if you tried) are in that GD clam shell wrapping. You need to have a better knife than they sell just to open it up.

Any Walmart ECT will have kitchen knife sets that you can just open, Think of all the axes and such out there ready to kill people, The evil black axes especially frighten me, And Oh my the machetes in the garden section give me nightmares !
