"need" is subjective, if you like shooting, you should have at least one AR lower, the great thing about AR's as a platform is you can switch out the upper and shoot all kinds of other calibers out of the same lower, you could toss a standard 5.56 upper on for home defense and just general plinking, you could toss a 6mm ARC upper on for distance shooting, you could even toss a 350 legend upper on if you wanted to do hunting in a state that only allows straight wall cartridges for it. I'd say the magic number for AR lowers is 3, but is there really such a thing as to many guns?
