But I'd rather have at least one very good rifle and one beater than XX # of entry level / low end ones.

So if it's just another lower budget one then save for a very nice one or consolidate the others. I'm talking the $1500-1700 range Geissele, DD, BCM or LWRC.

But one rifle is always better than none.

    Three identically outfitted.
Two for you and one to sell to a neighbor at 4x what you paid...

I know DD is well though of, but do y'all think it really is $1000 better than a $500 Palmetto State? I could put a Geisele trigger in either, as well as add a nice scope etc. (BTW I would love to have a DD) - Do I need a Rolex when the G-shock keeps the same perfect time? Maybe if it came time to sell in a normal (not hyper-inflated scenario...)

I think DDs are overpriced. I think a LWRC with the fully ambi lower, monoforge upper, and one piece bolt carrier/key is the better value and probably cheaper. I also think the Geissele rifles are a good value. Nicer BCG than DD and has a great trigger already.

Those rifles have good gassing for quicker shots, better QC and assembly, pinned gas blocks, better rail lockups, the list goes on. Entry level rifles are great if all you can swing is $500. But if you can swing $1500, there IS a difference that you will notice.

    Well the obvious answer is 9mm ARs = 9, 7.62 ARs = 10, and 5.56 ARs = 15.
    Self explanatory.

Unless you are on fire, or drowning, you don't have too many.

Build one really good one. For maybe $1000+ you can build your own that will compete with the $2600 Knights, Pepé Le Pew*s & other crazy $$ AR*s out there. Don*t waste your time with junk. Just buy the parts a few at a time.

Also, if you aren*t planning to do several, just research a little. There are some of us with all the tools, who help others assemble them at no charge....simply because we enjoy it. NEVER pay someone to assemble an Upper or Lower... EVER!

At the current price point, it's never a bad idea to pick up at least one basic AR.
