Re: Luger
Looks like someone tried to obliterate the ''chamber date'' for whatever reason. Looks like a 6 is still evident for the last digit.
Most P-08s have the last 2 digits of the serial number on each part.
Not sure when the German arms makers started applying the Swastika ''Waffenamt'' , but I think 36 might be a bit early. Could be a Weimer mark that was overstruck.
Astra did supply their Model 300(.380) & 600(9X19P) to Hitler during WWII, and Waffenamt-marked guns bring a premium.I don't speak English , I talk American!

Re: Luger
I was told the S/42 was a code to hide the fact that they were military production because that was banned for Germany after WWI? The S/42's marked pistols were manufactured by Mauser between 1936 and 1939 so that could help explain the stamped over "chamber date" which appears to end in a 6 or 1936. Hmmmm, don't you just love history. Once I get it and the letter I'll have to keep digging! Should leave Madrid in a few weeks once it's done clearing ATF and Spanish Police........

Re: Luger
I'll add my modest opinion. A near perfect, yet common WW2 Luger is bringing around $3K. If it has a rough finish and or bore, closer to $2K. If it is mismatched, defaced, or otherwise sodomized, lower end of $1,500. If the bore is good, and you can get it for under $1,200, I'd get it. For that price it's worth it as a shooter.
So sad to see them brutalized. That finish is pretty rough.Last edited by Hanzy4200; September 24th, 2021 at 11:36 PM.

Re: Luger
If you are going to shoot it, pick up a set of repro grip panels, available from eBay for twenty bucks delivered. Reason- the originals are known to crack.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Re: Luger
Thanks all. And thanks for the tip on grips. I'll probably test it out and then pack it away so don't want to take a couple shots and wreck the grips. Hopefully the gun will be Stateside soon !

Re: Luger
I never heard of a grip cracking just from shooting a pistol. But I have heard of the "million dollar chip" that has screwed up many thousands of Lugers. Be careful.
