Compress gas cylinder question.
Strange question for anyone with knowledge of compressed gas cylinder tanks. Tank has been empty for years, with valve removed, so perfectly safe. I want to know if the part where the protective cap screws
on is removable or does it need to be cut off?

Exactly what kind of bottle are you talking about? Pictures help.

Re: Compress gas cylinder question.
Most cylinders I am familiar with, the threaded neck for the cap is the body and not separate...

Re: Compress gas cylinder question.
Oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen, argon, helium, and hydrogen cylinders are all I deal in. Some have a removable shoulder *cap*. If it is removable, you should be able to slip a screwdriver tip up under and wiggle it a bit. If you can, it probably is removeable by unscrewing it.

Re: Compress gas cylinder question.
Yeah, hard to tell without pics. It sounded to me like he was saying the valve was removed, and he wanted to know about the collar around the threaded neck. Most cylinders don*t have the collar, but most that do, its removable. That *collar* made it easier to rebrand a cylinder from ABC gas company to XYZ gas company. Without the collar, the owning company has to mold or stamp their name on the cylinder.
OP, care to weigh in here?
Just to be safe, stand it up, and fill it with water, then dump it out, then repeat a few times to be sure it*s purged out. Once it*s purged, cut it up with a saw or torch, or put it out to the curb for scrappers.

Thank you Manxdriver, that is what I was asking about. Emptied many before retirement, never knew what they looked like inside. Want it for project 18,064. Thank you again.
