Default NRA 2021 Annual Meeting Cancelled

https://www.nraam.org/ Just found out about this today. I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I find the explanation "because of Covid" a little hard to believe. Other events seem to be proceeding normally, and cancelling this close to the the opening date (September 3rd) must be costing lots of people lots of money. Does anyone have any insight into the situation?

Lol Wayne is pocketing cash with this I bet.

Hire your own companies, nonrefundable payments. Never have to buy supplies because the plan is to cancel at the last minute anyways.

Big piles of cash that was supposed to be already spent and gone, being squirreled away. The whole shebang becomes a tax write off.

    Boom.

    How'd I do?

Saw a story the other day that many of the large vendors had already backed out to to china flu concerns.

I don't believe for a second this is on the up and up.

With that said, tons of big events have been canceled "because of COVID-19", but with about 3 weeks' notice.*

I think they saw an opportunity for a good cover story, and ran with it.

*notably the New York Auto Show, which I was tremendously disappointed to hear. As it were though, there is a God- I happened to be traveling through Detroit that day, and since they (big 3) already had exhibits packed and ready to go, they had a mini auto show on the street in Detroit, and it was pure bliss. Just as cool as the NY show, but without any foreign cars, and the pretty girls standing next to them actually knew a thing or two about the junk under the hood.

They should do something similar with the NRA show!

I heard days ago that many vendors had already cancelled. In fact the list of cancellations was higher than the list of those that said they would come.

And, yes, many events are still being held. But many are also being cancelled.

I don't think there is anything nefarious going on, it was just a decision they had to make (to cancel or proceed) and they made the decision they thought was best.

Now, I am still frustrated with the NRA's leadership the last few years and haven't given them a penny, but I don't think this decision to cancel was anything other than Covid based.

Here's a summary of observations of the cancellation https://taitnra.substack.com/p/nra-a...g-is-cancelled

I don't claim to have any insight but in my view the reason is likely should they hold the event and there is a covid outbreak or even if a couple people get it, the media would beat them something terrible. The convention gives them a chance to upgrade their image and vendors like to display new products similar to shot show. So it doesn't do the NRA or the vendors any good to cancel this event.
