Best advise...dont walk out of the woods until dark especially around lunch time...enough people making enough noise to scare up any deer, take aim and BANG! Oh, and that loud leaf rustling you hear is a squirrel or chipmunk...

OP, that is great that you have rifle and hunting license. I'm not sure you know or not, you will need a doe tag to hunt does in the WMU that you want to hunt. I know a few WMUs are already sold out, so that means you can only shoot a buck and that's state wide.

I brought a new hunter from York a few years ago to my WMU and to the farm I grew up working. Hunting is a great sport to get into...just know that hunting is like the military. Hurry up and wait...the excitement last 10 minutes and you will send hours waiting on the animals to come to you, if you even see any animals.

If I may also suggest, try squirrel season first when it starts in a few weeks.

You can extend your deer season by taking up archery. Get a decent crossbow and do a little practice, not the range of a rifle but with some practice you ca get the 40 yd shots out of these. The learning curve is pretty steep, as its not as complicated as a regular compound bow that might take years for some to master.
The weather is warmer, and you can see more animals because they arent spooked from all the other hunters.
