Default non resident license to resident

have a non resident license and now I'm gonna move to pa permanently . one of the items requested when I applied was a copy of my home state license. I will be turning in my NYC license and will only have the pa one when I move. is there any issue with turning in my home state license and having the PA one? do I need to do anything in pa besides a change of address?

When you leave NYC, you notify the pistol permit office in NYC of your change of address. If they don't revoke it, that license is still good.

Your LTCF should be good as well, after you establish residency in PA.

I know people from NYS, living in PA, who still have their NYS permit.

    IANAL.

IANAL and my memory is horrible but this question has been raised before. For some reason I'm thinking that when you become a resident of PA, your non-resident permit expires and you need to high-tail it to get PA LTCF but I might be wrong. I'd call the applicable sheriff's office and ask.

I had my ltcf for 2-ish years after I moved to New Jersey. Aside from the address on the license, Pennsylvania simply has one type of ltcf. A previous address could lead to difficulties, but it's still a license that shows that the licensee passed the background check. Worse case scenario is that an ltcf could be revoked based on an address that is not current. I believe the wording in the law is that they are "valid unless revoked or expired."

There is no such thing as a PA Resident or Non-Resident LTCF. PA just has a LTCF, that we also issue to non-residents(with 1 extra criteria).

When you move to PA, your LTCF is still valid. You will then renew at the sheriff of the county in which you reside. BTW, there really isn't a "renewal" in PA, since the process is the same as new issuance(except for former non-residents that have since became residents).

    This is correct.

When I moved from DE, back to PA in 2019, they simply issued me a new LTCF with my new PA address, took all of about 10 minutes.

Upper right hand corner of the application: RENEWAL with a check box next to it.

    Had to freaking work!

Knight is correct. A LTCF is a LTCF. The only difference is the "home state license" requirement for one to be issued to a non-resident.

Some would advise that the holder contact the issuing authority to update the address on the license, so that the required renewal application (often not sent) gets to the right place, or in the rare case of a revocation, the notice of such, since there is a very short window to file an appeal.

All that said, such notification is NOT a legal requirement.
