    Default Muzzleloader For Beginners

Straight to the point. For hunting. For under $500 what is my best option/most popular one out there and who has it cheap? Anyone with experience? Looks like fun and a way to extend seasons and try new things.

For me its an old school percussion cap rifle like the Thompson center Hawken with a cast 50 caliber bullet. It works and I shot ~5 feet thru a button buck that was facing me. But just about everyone uses inlines with saboted JHP pistol bullets. (no comment).

A $500 budget should get you what you need unless you go after the latest (and unneeded) whiz bang stuff. Just make sure you include at least $50-100 for the accessories you need (worm, brushes, nipple wrenches, speed loaders etc)

Seconded to Delkal's post.... Can't go wrong with a Thompson Center Hawken. They also look good! And definitely plan on spending a little bit for the accessories.

Head up to Dixon's and have a look around. They can answer all of your questions and supply most anything you will need or want

Inline I guess, simple is best.

No FFL right? Ships straight to house?

If you can find one a T/C black mountain magnum. Percussion cap sidelock with fiber sights, but it can handle magnum charges and pellets and stabilize a sabot still. If you're really lucky you can swap out the barrel for a 12ga turkey barrel if you can find one.

No FFL. Order them anywhere or pick up local with no paperwork.

Make sure you read some current reviews on CVA products. They were second rate at best 20-30 years ago. And you can pay more then $190 for a quality firearm of any type.

Every store near me has either number 10 or number 11 percussion caps and at least one bottle of pyrodex
