Rifle case for.bolt gun

Ok, I just purchased a bolt gun, Savage 110 Switchback, which has an oversized bolt handle. The width of the gun with the bolt in is around 4". I'm looking for a hard case for it but I have yet to see a economical case that's more than 3.75" thick. I did see one that was 4" thick OD.
The easy solution is to remove the bolt to transport the gun, is that something that's common, maybe I'm creating an issue where there isn't one?

I would remove the bolt as you already suggested. Wrap it in a cloth.

Says the dimensions are : Interior dimensions: 50-3/8 in. x 13-5/8 in. x 5-1/8 in. Price is listed as $120, But I recall seeing them on sale over the weekend for less.

i have 2 of those HF boxes, theyre heavy as hell, but sturdy as a brick outhouse. if your planning a trip and taking 2 guns these are the route to go

I looked at them yesterday at my local HF. They are heavy and a lot of overkill for my needs. I've got a smaller one for my drone though.
