Default What budget scope for 20" AR build?

Building a 20" barrel AR and will be putting a scope on it. Just a paper puncher so looking for something budget friendly.

Also, feel free to suggest a decent mount. It has an M-Lok upper on it

I'm working on a 20" right now too (a4 clone-ish) and plan on slapping a gen 1 viper pst 1-4 on it as a poverty acog. It's performed very well on my 16".

Go to grafs.com. look up Simmons optics. From $41 and up.

    I have 2 of there 41 dollar scopes. Both 3-9 x 40.

For just a regular blasting AR they are hard to beat.

I find it hard to believe a $41 scope is going to be reliable long term. Can you share how long you've had it, rounds fired with it, etc?

Atibal scopes are nice. Maybe more of a mid-range than a budget scope, though. Glass was on par with Vortex, but WAY less $$. I got one of their 1x4 ffp scopes about 5 years ago (now, replaced by a Weaver 1x7 ffp).

    They have a couple in their 'scratch & dent' page that are more budget friendly;

3 years now. Probly 1k rounds on each. Simmons is similar to the old Tasco and Bushnell stuff. Glass isnt great but it works.

I don't shoot those guns much, I'll be honest. I shoot mainly 600 yards with a 4.5-14 Leupold VX-3 LR. But you mentioned "budget" without a price range.

I can consider some of my Leupolds to be budget friendly compared to my Nightforce glass.

Or Vortex is also good. Just depends on the "budget"

I also use alot of Burris pistol scopes. Burris is also budget friendly.

And I abuse the shit out of my Burris scopes. All on big bore mags. 460, 500, 450 Marlin, 45/70, 30-30, and 308 pistols.

I also have this cheap ass 1-4x mounted on a 45/70 rifle that sees about 750 rounds of cowboy action ammo a year. Hasn't broke in 5 years. under 100 bucks.

A Vortex Crossfire II in the 4-12 range would suffice or an equal Primary Arms model. I had one lying around and put it on a spare 18" rifle to take to a 300+ yard range. Easy enough smacking steel. Clarity was better than expected and did the job. Often I see PSA selling something called the Vortex Sonora or something like that. It usually comes with a mount though and is around $150 at PSA.

I don't know anything about the Vortex Copperhead, but:

A little bit more, but I do like Burris as well:

^^Research this one. I didn't look into it.

I'm leaning toward the Primary Arms 3x Prism optic right now...

    Good? Bad?

People seem to like them. Often referred to as a *budget* or *poor man*s* ACOG. Of course, you*re limited to the 3x. Plan to ever reach out more on paper?
