    After several years of full length usage I went back to short guid rod. Only difference noted between the 2 is the ease of reassembly with short rod.

    I have a bunch of 40 grain. I might try that first, see how it runs, then do the upgrades. Then I'll know if if was the new parts or the ammo

    The last 1911 I built I made it specifically for use with 450SMC/45Super. 185gr @1350fps. It uses a standard GI guide rod and functions flawlessly. Was said earlier in the thread. The FLGR for the 1911 was an answer to a question NO ONE ASKED! Sales... that’s it! The shiny NEW thing on the block..it MUST make it better’er, right? The arguments of better accuracy, reduced recoil, etc. are absolute myths! It adds unnecessary weight, especially in Tungsten. Not to mention the aforementioned extra difficulty to disassemble. True 1911 fans, especially those of us who build them, overwhelmingly use the standard GI guide rod.
