Default Is shooting thru an unattached sound-deadening device an ATF device?

Scenario: shooting from a bench, rifle supported, free-standing "box" with sound absorbing qualities with a hole allowing the barrel slight entry and an exit hole for the projectile.

Would that be a "silencer" (silencer is a BATFE term for a suppressor) governed by the BATFE rules? Or does their definition specify attachment to the gun?
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

In the minds of clear thinking humans being that said deadening device isn't attached you're good to go 🤔 but in the minds of subhuman leftist thinking pencil pushing communist Neanderthals you'll be locked away for 20+ years without your beloved friend 🐕 sparky

I've seen some ranges where you lie down in front of a pipe with sound deadening foam to shoot. I would think that would be fine, but you never know with the scumbags at AFT.

Some public ranges in KY have pipes you shoot through.

I bet if he insulated those tires you'd hardly hear it.
