    Home defense should be fast and simple - gun, flashlight, phone and for most of us glasses.
    Nothing else, including clothes.

    In WWII US troops used emplaced M-2 .50 cal BMGs on tripods from inside buildings. And AT guns. And later on, things like M-72 LAW rockets (do watch that back blast though).

    Yes, I was responding to initial question. I don't think hearing protection is needed for HD. Grab what is needed fast, ie don't take time to dress.
