Default Fair price for an HD 870?

I've seen a few 870s locally for anywhere from sub $400 for the field guns (which I'm not at all interested in) to $900 for wingmasters with chopped barrels. Is it reasonable to pay above the pre-plague price for a tactical 870 if you could find one or would you just wait until the world comes back to normal? I've gone down a pistol grip rabbit hole with my Benellis so while I have seen a few 590s, I don't like how they handle with pistol grips because of their controls. 870 or nothing. What do you think? Money is generally a non-issue for me but I don't want to feel stupid in a few months knowing I paid $800 or so for a $450 gun.

Prices on shotguns have been coming back down. Personally I'd wait.

The beauty of shotguns. Get the field gun, get a tactical barrel off eBay, get different stock if you want. Unlike most rifles not in the AR line, shotguns are versatile.

I have no interest in a field gun and the 18" barrels are still double what they cost a few years ago. It would cost me more to get an 18" barrel than it would to buy a complete 28" gun sometimes when I look.

I can't find one anyway so I guess I'm taking your advice by default. Haha! My wife wants a PSA AR-V and we'll have more fun with that than ANOTHER shotgun so you know, priorities.

I think the 870 is discontinued. I keep an eye on shotguns and even the cheapest barrels seem to start at $200 for 870s. If they are discontinued, I doubt they are going to drop in price much. I don't understand the military dropping them for Mossberg. Cheaper? I bid on a Turkish pump-brand new in the box and won. It was one of those deals where you don't care and throw a low bid on it. The Dealer I use agrees, it looks well made. I have not used it yet, but would like to try it out.

Remington has begun manufacturing again despite the best efforts of their union to keep them shut down and new laws signed by the communist governor of New York state that holds gun manufacturers responsible for the misuse of the products by criminals. Until Remington moves out of the State they will fail again.

If you're going to buy an 870 for defensive purposes make sure it's the 870P (Police) which comes with the upgraded heavier duty parts already installed.

When they were bought out by some conglomerate? I don't know, just asking too. The same outfit bought Marlin and now Marlin was bought by Ruger? Remington ammunition was sucked up by someone affiliated with Federal, but I don't know the statue of the gun making part.

***According to the link provided in the other post, the 870 IS back in production.

I would not buy an 870 that is new or was manufactured in the last 10 years. There are over 10 million higher quality used guns out there for cheap.

Prices are coming down fast so just laugh at the $900 Wingmaster and consider other gunshops in your area..
