Re: HB 1718 Increased Penalties for unlicensed carry
This sounds like the same illogical rationale of needing more immigration laws because the authorities choose to disregard the current laws.

Re: HB 1718 Increased Penalties for unlicensed carry
Yet they (Dems) are trying to eliminate the mandatory sentencing enhancements for possession of firearms during commission of violent crimes!
'Anti-Racism Sentencing Reform Act': Proposed law in California would drastically reduce penalties for violent gun crimes
"In essence, the bill decriminalizes the use of a firearm in California for the most severe, most violent felonies. What this bill would do is encourage violent criminals to use guns during their crime because the penalty is so insignificant," said Eric Siddall, VP of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA) of LA County.I don't speak English , I talk American!

Even IF the intent was as bigandy says, LE can't just randomly stop someone to check for a license. Yet. Any 'thug' will conceal. They're at least not dumb enough to OC.

Oh really? Remember the prohibited punk in Philly riding the ATV thru the streets with a SMG-style pistol strapped to the front.
And they most certainly can , will and do still stop suspicious-looking people with a visible firearm. The case will get thrown out , , but the guns will be confiscated and not returned to any prohibited persons. Another bad gun off the streets!Last edited by abner13; July 9th, 2021 at 11:56 AM.

Re: HB 1718 Increased Penalties for unlicensed carry
I read the bill
https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs...type=B&bn=1718
It looks like it increases penalties for second offenses. As of the writing of this post it only has democrat sponsors.
In my opinion if the bill passed it's not likely to harm anyone with a valid LTCF. However if it does pass it is probably to give the anti gun crowd a boost in morale because they got a gun control law through the GOP state legislature. Therefore they will build on it.
The only way I would support is if it was attached to a constitutional carry bill. One that increased the penalty for carrying with certain serious crimes on ones' record and at the same time remove the requirement for a LTCF to carry.
