    Default .30-06 for M1 Garand

I recently acquired my first Garand from CMP and am looking forward to taking it to the range. Does anybody have good leads on where to get Garand-compatible .30-06? It seems like a lot of surplus has dried up. Any sources online or in Eastern PA would be appreciated.

Generally speaking, any Civvie 150 grain FMJ that is not labeled "high velocity" ect..(the cheap stuff ) will work. Norma, American Eagle and some others sell factory ammo labeled for M1Garand use

Yes the MilSurp is getting harder to find and spendy as is the enblocks, I rember them for less than 25 cents, they are at some shows for $2 +

great site for all things Garand and thier prices have not gone full retard

Enjoy the rifle, you chose wisely....and one more caveat, it almost never makes it on to the Lefty banners list of evil rifles

If you*re in the Lehigh Valley area you can try Sarco. They usually have some Privi Garand safe ammo.

On the above post, two days ago I noticed a few PPU "06" unfired cases in the bucket at our range with heavy primer strikes and no ignition. These were newer or new rounds. Looks like PPU has some bad large rifle primers.

How much do you want to buy?

I'm consolidating my ammo and have more 30-06 than I'll ever use. I have a few cans of genuine USGI Lake City in cartons and a few cases of Danish surplus on clips in bandoleers. This is around 1991 vintage. Very accurate , high-quality stuff. Denmark shipped millions of rounds over when they returned the 40,000 Garands they borrowed. It's non-corrosive , brass-cased , but it is Berdan primed so reloading is not very practical. No shipping , local pick-up only.

Talk to Abner. You need to shoot Grand safe ammo.
    Bent oprods are a thing.
if you can't find it here check out the cmp forums. plenty of info on ammo.

Not exactly the answer you asked for, but one of the aftermarket gas plugs is on my short list once mine arrives. For $30-50 theres a few out there with different functionality claims.

Thanks for all the great info, all. Definitely trying to avoid a bent op rod or anything dangerous, so I appreciate the tips and leads.

Long before I knew that , I probably fired thousands of 150-165gr Fed Hi-Shok/Rem Core-Lokt/Win Power-Point sporting ammo thru my first Garand. Stocked up when dept stores like Woolworths and JM Fields had ammo sales before deer season and it was $3.99 box/20.

that'll probably do more than forgoing the average 150-165 gr factory loadings to bring your rifle up to snuff.
Last I bought any was Fulton Armory I believe FWIW

    CMP installs fresh op-rod springs.

    Stay away from Fulton Armory!!!
