    Default Rebarreling an Enfield?

    Hi all,

Not too long ago, I got a sporterized enfield (Sht L.E.) which was in pretty bad shape and the barrel was a total sewer pipe. I decided to look into rebarreling the rifle in either the original .303 or possibly a more available caliber, but I don*t have any experience rebarreling or the tooling. Could anybody share their experiences rebarreling or possibly share a good gunsmith in SE PA?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

For an Enfield, definitely go to a Smith if you've never done anything like that before. They can be a pretty big pain to get the old barrel out and you have to know how to check/set the head spacing.

I'm sure someone from the area probably has a good recommendation for a Smith. You used to be able to find decent surplus barrels for them, but I haven't looked in quite a while. Otherwise a company like Shillen can make you something. Remember if you want to change caliber, you have to use something based on the 303 case or change out the bolt face too.
