Small revolver recomendation
In the market for a 2" revolver. Under 500$ 38 special prefered but would try others.
Ive read a few articles which say the Taurus is the best low cost option.
Any opinions?

Re: Small revolver recomendation
I own a Taurus 85 and a Ruger LCR. I'd take the LCR over the 85 any day of the week (it's on my hip right now actually). Not that the Taurus is particularly bad, but the LCR is lighter, better trigger, and allows for sight upgrades. Should be able to find one under $500. IMHO, I'd happily spend an extra $100 on the Ruger, maybe a little more.

Don't forget about the "Charter Arms" and " Armscor" offerings.

Re: Small revolver recomendation
I have a S&W 442(blued) and a S&W 642(stainless) both are .38 spc. + P rated. I and my wife bet our lives on them regularly, and I recommend them both. I recently sold a S&W model 60 .357 mag. which is a real handful with magnum loads. The other subcompact revolver I would consider is the LCR .38 + P. Taurus' reputation keeps me away and the Kimber and Colt are pricier than my taste.

Re: Small revolver recomendation
Used S&W J frames are nicely priced and generally not shot much. To my mind, an M38 Airweight is about as good as it gets and I have one in my pocket right now in a Mika holster.

Re: Small revolver recomendation
Before i posted my unpopular opinion, i wanted to do a quick comparison:
https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/...esson-model-60
Why choose an uncomfortable gun with such a limited capacity that is longer and taller than a semi auto?
Yes they can be marginally lighter and maybe less wide. I picked the Beretta as an example/comparison just because that is what i have.
The only reason I could maybe justify is some sort of neurological condition which made racking the slide difficult. But shooting a j frame snubby is surely going to aggravate those very same conditions.
My recommendation is don't.
If you want a wheel gun, get one that you are going to enjoy shooting. It likely won't be a j frame.

Re: Small revolver recomendation
Lightweight revolvers suck to shoot. Even the LCR with it's excellent grip can't overcome recoil from +p or .357 rounds. If you have to have a lightweight revolver, the LCR is the way to go, IMO. If weight is not a concern the Ruger SP101 all day, everyday. You can get a used one for less than $500.

Re: Small revolver recomendation
It's funny you linked to the PX-4. I shot the LCR in .357 mag and the PX-4 on the same day. A friend of mine brought both out to a range day. I did not like shooting the Beretta one bit. The ergonomics do not work for me. The LCR was OK with hot .38 rounds. .357 was unpleasant, but nothing like shooting .38+p out of my S&W 642. Christ that thing sucked to shoot.
My same friend with the PX-4 and the LCR tried my wife's SP101. She liked it so much that she went out the next week and bought one...along with a Colt Anaconda...go figure.
