Default Strapped in Chicago: What the thugs carry

S&W number one followed not unexpectedly by Hi-Point. Glocks are moving up the list but still largely cost-prohibitive on the street. Cheap guns preferred as often disposed after a crime. 9mm is the caliber of choice followed by .40 and .45. .38 has fallen out of favor as wheel guns give way to cheap autos. Some prof who studies "crime guns" admits (as we all know) long guns, e.g., ARs, are seldom used in street crime despite the media mania about the plague of "assault weapons." This is 2014 data. Numbers no doubt have gone up under incompetency posterchild, Mayor Murderfoot.

I see Ravens. It looks like there's no need to ban any H&K's.

That's because Jennings hasn't been in business for a couple of decades

"The Trace" is also an anti-gun org.

They were all bought legal from the gun show with the gun show loophole.

No 1911's in the top 20, and the only .45 was a Glock. Even the criminals know, the 1911 isn't reliable. Who says criminals are stupid?

I remember reading one of the first studies of handguns used in street crime. I think it was published in the late 1970s. Most people were surprised at the time to learn that crooks liked the same guns as the police of the era...the classic DA .38/.357.

At the time, people assumed all the crime guns were "Saturday Night Specials". Yeah, I know, another media created term without a specific definition. How the times have changed. Probably not surprising that the revolver is fading as a crime weapon since most crooks can't even source ammo for even the most common calibers.
