PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Two men riding an ATV were seriously injured and may face leg amputations after police say they ran a red light and were hit by an SUV.

It happened at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on 5th Street near Hunting Park Avenue in the city's Hunting Park neighborhood.

At one point years ago I almost had some empathy for the plight of ATV/dirt bike riders perhaps riding to an offroad location for recreation. If they would follow the rules of the road. But this is not even close. They break about every law on the books. Run lights, sidewalks, speeding, wrong side of the road, swerving. etc.

Why were all the cars just sitting stopped at green lights while these people were flying through red lights at 60 MPH? I did see that it looked like some intersections had people blocking traffic, but not all.
