Default Legality of carrying your permit in your phone

What's the legality of carrying your permit in your phone? Or in other words, carrying a high res photograph of your permit in your cell phone.

I know several people that do it, and i've heard stories of cops being fine with it, but there's always 'that guy' that could make issues for you if it's not technically legal. Obviously the cop can call in the permit based on a digital image, but some cops just exist to break citizens stones.

So the question is: Is it technically legal or illegal?

    Thanks.

I would have to say it is legal, since there is no requirement in PA to actually carry a physical License on your person. That being said, depending on the officer, you may have to produce the license at a preliminary hearing if your digital image is not trusted.

IANAL IMO its sounds perfectly legal, however I wouldn't want the police taking my phone. You would probably be better off with a good photo copy laminated. Then if the Police seize it, you still have the original. Philly PD would be a perfect example of a place where they might take your stuff, and then have to fight to get it back. IANAL

The law says that you shall provide it upon lawful demand. ....That would entail supplying the license itself, not a representation of it.

A really anal officer could arrest you for at minimum the M1 violation, take you to jail, and allow things to process out from there.

How much do you like jail time and posting bail(or non-refundable bond)?

I don*t have a permit. I don*t hunt with a handgun, but if I did I would ask a game warden if having a picture of it on my phone was good enough. I know for the ltcf you are supposed to carry it, not a picture of it.

Mine is laminated but barely legible. Dont know why you even need to carry it,
they'll just check with the computer anyway.
