Default 300 blackout will chamber in 5.56!?

I learned something new today. Not firsthand thankfully.

Apparently 300 blackout will seemingly load into the chamber of a 5.56 rifle.

Bad things will happen. But the bolt will close.

This is a non issue for me as I don't have 300 blackout. But seriously keep your ammo separated.

Most likely , the .22cal bullet will not come out of the .30cal bore with any speed. No pressure would build up. Certainly not 55,000psi. Firing a .357 Sig out of a .40 S&W barrel was anti-climatic to say the least.

I put one of Squirrel Daddy*s engraved ejection port covers on mine. Far from foolproof, but it does provide a visual reference.

The FIRST rule of wildcatting is that if you neck up a parent case it should not be able to chamber. I think the inventors of the 300 BO had to know this so something is wrong here.

Do they mean a standard commercial loaded BO will chamber or is it someone putting a light bullet and seating it way under spec? Still not a good design but handloaders can do stuff like that.

There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Yes it's something that can happen but it just comes down to being not careless and stupid and paying attention to what you are doing.

A picture is worth a thousand words. This article has a photo of 300 Blackout and 5.56 rounds side by side. I can see how the 300 Blackout might chamber in a 5.53 barrel. It will not be a pleasant outcome.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?
