Default Re: Mil dot scope recommendation?

I went to the local store today after work. I wanted to handle some scopes and see the reticles.

    I left with a vortex viper pst 5-25x ebr-7c.

Yes. It is way too much power (is there really such a thing?). I expected the ffp to kind of make the reticle useless. I was wrong. Even at 5x, the reticle is perfectly useable (albeit smaller).

The busy stuff in the reticle is honestly not intrusive. If it helps me correct for something, great. If not, it is just kind of white noise that I'll eventually look past.

Another thing i didn't realize with vortex is that they aren't all made in china. This one claims to be made in the Philippines.

It is a lot of scope.

I saw crimson trace and Trijicon had some pretty tempting deals for Japanese made scopes, but i really wanted to handle one in person before i committed that kind of money to an online purchase. I'm really glad i did because some of my misconceptions about the ffp scopes and vortex in general were broken.

I ended up with that model in MOA (hence the getting rid of the HS-T). It was a late night buy and I accidentally bought the SFP model instead of FFP. Oh well.

I've got nothing against sfp. It really does come down to preference. I have 3 other mil scopes and all are sfp.

I wanted FFP this time around for the consistent holdovers at every magnification. This glass will be for a long awaited .308 build. I*m an a amateur when it comes to shooting past 300 with anything but a crew serve.

SWFA 3-15 mil quad will do everything you need for a long, long time. Pretty much everything else has to justify itself as to why it is not that one.
