Any registered member can give a thumbs up or a thumbs down to a post by clicking on the icon in the top right corner that looks like a scale. These ratings are used to help calculate an overall reputation for users.

Re: Rating
You can also rate a thread with out rating the user by clicking on rate thread. This is a 5 Star system so th emore stars, the better a post is.

Re: Rating
I didn't want to start a new thread about this, so I figured I'd just bump this one, is there any particular reason you're using the Karma/Reputation other than for the general "cool factor"?
Personally, I think it's just another thing for the fanboys to pick their heroes and for the ignorant trolls to abuse others with.
I got nailed with negative rep from one user that was banned and again from one of his presumed friends also trolling the discussion in question; the banned user had 9 posts total, all in that one thread where he insulted and verbally attacked others, and everytime I log in to my CP I get to see the comments "clueless kid", "Feel your a troll" and another unrelated negative feedback from a user that was apparently warned or told about his unsavory conduct here "Keep your pointless posts to yourself".
Ok, rant over. I'll continue to ignore that "feature".

Don't feel bad NineSeven. I got my share of negative rep from that thread as well.
The lack of proper grammar and intellect found in your negative rep comments closely match the ones I got.
Must be the same troll, using different accounts. I know at least one got banned. (Scud)
Either way.. does anybody pay any attention to that?==============

Re: Rating
I'm almost afraid to say this "out loud", but it seems the members here have more control of themselves than other boards I've seen.
Yes, it CAN be a childish game.
The thing I LIKE about this forum's rep feature is the ability to add a comment rather than just a plus or minus. As much as the negative reps can be annoying without explanation, the positive reps seem just as pointless without knowing WHY it was given.
The thing I DON'T like is that it can be done anonymously. I ALWAYS add my screen name so folks know who gave them the comment and I can't see myself ever resorting to using that feature for "disagreements" or immature name-calling. If a person can't address a problem with me directly, they better hope they never have a disagreement with anyone in the real world where they have to actually communicate with them instead of "rating" them behind their backs.
Either way, plus or minus, my rep on this forum is never going to help or hurt me on a job application, so I don't get too worked up over it.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Rating
I too wish the rep points wouldn't be able to be awarded anonymously. That way the rating system would be validated.
Much like a credit report. Imagine if those were anonymous!==============

Re: Rating
It's not anonymous admins can see all reputation left for and by who. If you ever have an issue where you think people are ganging up on you to unfairly kill your rep let me know.
I forget if there's an option to let you mere mortals see who left reputation for you, I'll look around.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association
