I like doe meat. I did a job for line walker, he came out with dear meat in one hand and .223 ammo in the other.
I took the meat. That stuff was unfrigginbelievable.
I dont like to kill anymore, but I'll always eat the stuff. I'll take deer meat over ANY store bought meat any day.

One thing about modern times...even if I can't use it, I'll bet I can trade it for something I can use. I see a lot of bartering going on any more.

Since I pulled the salt block, it seems the larger racked buck haven't been around as much.

Plenty of smaller buck, some legal, many are not.
The nontypical 8 ( 3 by 5 I think) just walked past a camera a week ago but since my cameras are 8 to 10 feet high, I have no clear shots.
My buddy up the street has not seen him.

I just took the Hunter Ed class on Sunday with 35 first timers. Kids, parents older first time hunters. Even the PGC officer didn't have any additional.info on the straighr walled cartridge allowance in special regs areas.

Perhaps the PGC will send an email with any clarification.

Sat is the first day of early archery but it looks like it'll still be too warm for the first week or so.

Good luck to anyone heading out to try their luck.

This guys legal with 3 up and no brow tine.
He gets a pass this year. My buddy up the street sent me his pic from 730 this AM. He came up to my place this after noon. He was walking down my driveway while I was pulling out. Funny, he didn't spook, just went around the neighbors house.

    I ddint realize he's a youngster too.
Both of these guys stopped this afternoonb and evening.

I hunted the past 3 mornings from my backyard tree stand..

I've seen nothing so far but the half dozen or better squirrels keep me smiling.

Since my knee surgery, I can't get up and down as easily as I could as a youthful 70 year old.

I climbed up in the dark this morning, Attached my safety belt and reached down to move a bucket to sit on.
It slipped out of my hand, fell 20 feet, rolled to the edge of the steep embankment and went down the hill about 30 yards.
Wonderful. A true deer attractant move.

Now, sitting on the platform would make getting up a pain so I tied my old safety belt higher to pull myself up when I was done.

    Ok.
Nary a deer to be seen.
I quit about 10, discharged my bow, climbed down the ladder and put stuff away.
While sitting there with restless leg, I envisioned the possible drag. That will be interesting if it happens.

I'll be 72 in a few weeks and hope I can hunt for a few more years at least.

The knee complications may cause me to cancel the elk hunt.
Hoping it doesn't but I'll see..

Anyway, i.pulled the trail cam cards and still have a few deer at nigh.

It's early im.heading to my buddies camp soon and will use my Loggy Bayou to hunt in the Tionesta area.

It's always a pleasure for me to simply get out. It seems you feel the same way. Good luck.

It truly is a pleasure just being out there. I'll be in my tree before sunrise tomorrow.

I just got the cert to help instruct Hunter Ed at our gun club hoping to instill some desire in these people (young and older) to get out there. The cirriculum now is such that we almost hurry to make it through in our time allotment.

I'd like to see it just a bit longer but with more show and tell and or short tales of experiences we have had and that they may encounter.
Maybe a short video on shot placement, some examples of bullet expansion, video on dressing and game care after the shot. Some tips on tracking a wounded animal.
I was pulled out of the class to review my presentation part so i may have missed some of it.

I took the online course and had to take this class as a student. First time since 1989. The course has gotten much more detailed than in years past.

Yes I love it and have been marginally successful by being in the right place at the right time and being a decent shot.

I'm heading out to Avella soon to scout the area I'll be rifle hunting for early old mans rifle doe season.

I'm hoping the 1924 dated (1916) mauser groups well enough.

The thing is, If I see nothing but chippies and squirrels, its still a good day..
