Default Private Range - Construction Compary or specialized ?

I have a 1.3mile long "mountain" range property that I'd like to put in a 50yd wide X 1mile long shooting lane.

Since it's on the side of a slope (roughly 30deg WAG) and tree'd, it would be best cleared with a bull dozer
with an angled blade. Would that be something a construction company would take on, or a specialized
company dealing in shooting range construction ?

We've cleared about 600 yrds of the ~1800 and have GPS waypoints plotted now for the expected/planned
path, but it might take another 2-3 years at our pace and I wanted to price it out and value compare.
Anyone ever had something like that done and have any thoughts and/or suggestions ?

    Bedford area for reference.

Sounds like you are building a dead end road in effect. Maybe a road builder could be helpful?

Depending on the property, that's a shit load of timber. Think about having it timbered out? With prices the way they are, you'd probably come out better off and with the same net effect (albeit with stumps and roughed up soil). Worst case, I'd bet the lumber pays for the cost of clearing/making nice.

I second having it logged if the trees are substantial enough. There are land clearing operations, you might want to see if you have one in your vicinity and see what they tell you.

Could the trees be cleared by simply shooting them down; ie. "Spotsylvania stump" ?
I know it would take a while and lots of rounds. But think of the practice.

Go with a logger. They just may even pay you to clear the range. FYI leave the stumps you don't want to have a landslide.

A land clearing company would be your best bet. They have the equipment to take out trees intact and will truck them out to a mill. Any debris can be chipped and left on site. Personally, I don't think 50yds is wide enough.

This range is 1000 yds...on the side of a mountain. Is this what you want?
