Default a silly people - Lawrence of Arabia

Reading the news the other day I was aghast at some of the headlines.

    1. LeBron James: You're next.

    2. A NYT's journalist suggested the GOP only "imagined" rioters looted cities in 2020.

    3. Kamala Harris said climate change is the root cause of the border crisis.

    4. The View cohost (what's her name) said the officer in Columbus should have fired his HG into the air.

    5. I think it was either CNN or MSNBC where someone on the news panel suggested the officer in Ohio should have shot the teen in her leg.

These are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Recall what T.E. Lawrence said to Sherif Ali after Ali killed Lawrence's acquaintance because the man drank from his (Ali's) well. Get That? A man was killed for taking a drink of water ... in the desert.

"... so long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long they will be a little people, a silly people ..."

Tribalism is a big part of the problem in our nation today. It's in politics, the media, education and almost everywhere. It's also active on both the Right and the Left.

Yes, we have indeed become a silly people. One need look no further for the evidence than the measure of a person in the 21st century is now based upon the number of "likes" they receive for something they posted on a social media platform.

    Sigh.

I wholeheartedly agree, but the more I'm attacked and singled out by the National Socialist and their agents of tyranny, for the supposed inequity I've perpetrated upon others and the privilege I've enjoyed, the more I hold onto my tribe and forcefully reject all calls for unity.

Maybe his friend should have respected Sherif Ali*s property.

Someone talking water from an outside spigot in Pennsylvania is still theft, and water is basically unlimited here.

To do so in an arid region is far worse. All human rights are nothing more then property rights.

    Fine.

T.E.'s point was that it was a moral dilemma, not a legal matter (united we stand, divided we fall).

If the guy had been taking water to irrigate his garden or water his livestock, that's one thing, but someone taking a drink of water because they were thirsty is something else.

I don't think hiding behind property rights in order to rationalize inconsiderate treatment of our fellow man is what the Christian Framers of the Constitution intended.

OTOH, maybe it wasn't the water. Maybe Ali shot him for not being enough of a "rugged individualist". Yeah, that's it, if he was thirsty, the guy should have dug his own well.

Direct preservation of a life should override property rights in certain cases. There is some historical and religious precedent in the Judeo Christian world and likely elsewhere for this notion. Lawrence was not only deriding the sheik's tribalism but also his culture's primitive morality.

That's where I'm at. I'm beginning to resent it so much that I'm going to break rules about racism here eventually and get banned. I've spent my whole life trying to expand my horizons and judge people by the content of their character, I'm struggling now.

That's been my experience too. I have known, and still know, a lot of good people of all colors, some of whom are old enough to have experienced real racism- and the last thing I want is for any of those people to be treated worse based on something like skin color.

In the same vein, I, who never owned slaves and never systematically oppressed anyone, am really weary of people who never were slaves or oppressed, demanding I make up for the sins of people neither of us will ever meet.

And I think it's great when black people enjoy black music and living in black neighborhoods, and when [blank] people listen to [blank] music and live in [blank] neighborhoods, and I don't think there's a damn thing wrong with me, a white dude, being proud of my own culture and being around other people like me. This extends to the feminism/gender bender issue too- I've never conspired to oppress women, nor would I want to if given the opportunity- and I'm getting really friggin tired of being told I can't act like a man in the workplace. I don't show up to women-dominated workplaces and tell the girls to stop acting like girls. Everybody should be proud of who and what they are, and play to their strengths- women, gays, minorities, and straight white men alike!

All this racism stuff is nothing more than a tactic used by the communists. Intelligent people of all races that respect freedom and the rights of individuals see that. Isn't our duty as Americans to put an end to communism and forever bury it in the annals of history?
