A friend I went to High School with inherited a couple of guns from family. One of them was a 2 1/2" barrel Colt Python. I took my friend to the range and showed him how to load, unload and handle the gun safely. I loaded it up with .38 special and he was having a great time shooting with it. I was shooting my .45 a couple of feet away. Then he asked about full power 357 loads. I gave him some full power 357 loads and told him these were much different than the 38 special . I was standing maybe 3-4 feet away at the bench when he fired off the first round. There was a large muzzle blast and it felt like my eyebrows were singed. He fired off the other five as I moved further down the bench and said to me he'll stick with the 38 special. The gun looked just like this picture I found and I tried like heck to buy it off of him but it was a family heirloom so that was that. That was back in the early 90's and he probably still has it.

For me I consider shooting full power 357 magnum rounds out of a revolver with a barrel of less than 3" counterproductive especially at night time when the muzzle flash will potentially blind you and the attacker for enough time that may or may not benefit you.

My 640-1 is a baby with 357. Those aluminum scandium jobs are rough.
