Default Going to VA, few questions

I'll be heading to VA the wknd of the 15th and I'm wondering if there is anything special I need to know about CC in the state.I figured I'd ask here as you guys seem to know your stuff. I know the rules about passing through DE & MD... I'm just wondering if there is anything different in VA than PA. Is it a shall notify state if I get stopped for any reason? Any restrictions on CC in bars etc?

    Thanks

    Tj

It is not a must notify state.

ANY place serves alcohol, OC ONLY! State Law.

    Almost.

CC is prohibited in any establishment that is licensed to serve alcohol, regardless of whether or not they are actually serving it.
    VA § 18.2-308

J3. No person shall carry a concealed handgun onto the premises of any restaurant or club as defined in § 4.1-100 for which a license to sell and serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption has been granted by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board under Title 4.1 of the Code of Virginia; however, nothing herein shall prohibit any sworn law-enforcement officer from carrying a concealed handgun on the premises of such restaurant or club or any owner or event sponsor or his employees from carrying a concealed handgun while on duty at such restaurant or club if such person has a concealed handgun permit.

Agreed, but if you are licensed, and don't serve, what's the point?

    Just asking.....

    See above, "on premises".

    Good clarification.

    I did not clarify properly.

Because the statute includes "clubs", it's possible you could be in an establishment for a banquet, reception, etc., and no alcohol is being served at the function you are attending.

If the establishment holds a license, you are legally prohibited from concealing there at any time. Something to keep in mind as you could potentially violate the law without even realizing it.

Thanks, I will be around the Norfolk area. I do not OC so If I go to a restaurant/bar whatever I'll be sure to keep it locked up somewhere.

Kinda sucks... I've gotten used to having it on me all the time...

Not sure I agree here. I'm pretty sure that licensing is different for places that sell alcohol (like a convenience store) as opposed to those that actually serve it. I don't believe you're obligated to OC in 7-11 for example, as they sell, but aren't "licensed to serve".
