Sunday hunting will help kill the boredom during bear season. Maybe this year, fingers crossed!

I'm not a fan of these two week rifle doe season. They kill way too many on game lands. I think right now the population is decent. It will be ugly in two years.

I didn*t watch the video but read somewhere else the game commission was going to reduce the number of doe tags because of the increased season to try and keep harvest number constant. Who knows if they*ll get it right.

They didn't lower the doe tags very much at all. The numbers were mentioned on WJAC TV but it was only like 10k or less but don't quote me on that number. It just wasn't a very significant drop in antlerless tags. Once again, just as I was seeing a resurgence of does and deer in general in the Bald Eagle State Forest, it will be another meat feast again. Great for some but bad overall for everyone after a few years. (plus predator loss and Chronic Wasting Disease). Maybe I'm a Fudd but I enjoy seeing deer on public land when I'm hunting or just hiking the trails year round.

No rifle in fall turkey season.
"Commissioners also made what they called a *difficult* vote to ban the use of rifles for fall turkey hunting, citing a declining turkey population."

Here*s the doe tag numbers from PAGC. You*ll see they lowered based on WMU. Good read on link below explaining the changes.

    The board voted to allocate 925,000 antlerless deer licenses statewide, which is down from the 932,000 licenses allocated for 2020-21. The move to allow concurrent hunting of antlered and antlerless deer statewide throughout the 14-day regular firearms season decreased the number of antlerless licenses available in many Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) while goals to maintain higher harvests in WMUs affected by chronic wasting disease (CWD) led to increased license allocations there. Allocations by WMU are as follows, with the allocation from the previous license year appearing in parentheses: WMU 1A * 40,000 (49,000); WMU 1B * 32,000 (41,000); WMU 2A * 39,000 (46,000); WMU 2B * 49,000 (49,000); WMU 2C * 67,000 (58,000); WMU 2D * 74,000 (60,000); WMU 2E * 42,000 (39,000); WMU 2F * 32,000 (36,000); WMU 2G * 23,000 (27,000); WMU 2H * 9,000 (7,000); WMU 3A * 19,000 (21,000); WMU 3B * 30,000 (33,000); WMU 3C *33,000 (49,000); WMU 3D * 36,000 (36,000); WMU 4A * 50,000 (49,000); WMU 4B * 34,000 (33,000); WMU 4C * 29,000 (32,000); WMU 4D * 55,000 (45,000); WMU 4E * 42,000 (37,000); WMU 5A * 31,000 (26,000); WMU 5B * 60,000 (60,000); WMU 5C * 70,000 (70,000); and WMU 5D * 29,000 (29,000).

The only way to reduce the number of doe harvested LEGALLY is to reduce the number of tags issued. I am not trying to make myself out to be Davey Crockett, but if I was only given three days to hunt in a season, one in archery, one in rifle and one in flintlock I am pretty sure I could walk off the season with three doe harvested hunting a mix of public and private property. Concurrent season, non-concurrent season, three days, 16 days....it doesn't matter. Guys that want to kill doe are going to kill doe...period.

I have the luxury of taking a week off for bear season, then a week off for rifle season followed by Christmas through New Year's Day. I am pretty selective in what I harvest and when I harvest it. Much of my decision is based on whether or not my daughter kills a doe with the inline in October. We are good with three deer in the freezer for the year. So, if she gets a doe and I shoot a buck in archery, I will be selective and maybe take a DMAP doe late in the season with the flintlock. I'm not out shooting doe just to kill deer. Anyway, just predicting that I won't be shooting doe in rifle until I get a buck on the ground. I guess we will have to wait and see if that happens during the first week or not.

On game lands it is significantly harder to kill something the second week of rifle season. Opening doe for 14 days will be a slaughter. It was last time so why wouldn't it be this time? They need more lumber. Prices are at an all time high and deer impact that number so we are going to get screwed. Last time they did this it took two seasons and after that it was harder to find a deer track in the snow than a coyote.
