    Do you think 1 piece or 2 piece doesn't make a difference with this caliber?

    2pc bases have 2 screw ea. That 1pc appears to have only 3 screws.

    The character of that fine old rifle begs for 2pc polished and blued steel bases and rings , IMHO.

    That sounds like sound advice. I’m going with the Leopolds. I think I’ll order them and install them myself.

    Clean threads on screws and holes in receiver with acetone (fingernail polish remover works) and use blue 242 or purple 222MS Loctite. DO NOT OVER-TORQUE screws. Contact snug plus 1/6 turn usually does it.
