    Default Hunting Rifle

Looking for a LIGHT 22-250 rifle.
My old Remington is wayyy too heavy.
What shop has the largest selection of hunting rifles?

In 2021? Probably none of them.

Sorry to be a smartass, but I couldn't resist. Except it's true.

I was in Shyda's in Lebanon the other day. They had a decent amount of rifles on the shelves...

Only 22-250 they show in stock:

Granted most shop inventories are unlike 18 months ago, but there are still guns to be had.

In NEPA, Burke's, Bear's & Advanced Arms all have a variety of long guns in stock.

Piestrak's, Iron Cowboy & EuroOptic actually have 22-250's in stock.

For light weight, it appears SAKO & Tikka are the top contenders.

For whitetails in Pa, I bought a Savage 16 Lightweight Hunter in 7mm-08. I used a 700 BDL in 7mm-08 and a Ruger RAP in 6.5G but both were getting heavy to drive and hike in the woods. The Savage LWH is OK with me. Two shots touch and the third is off a bit using 140 gr Nosler BT's. (Avg 3/4 inch MOA@ 100yds). This is an inexpensive rifle that can be found used. (no longer made). The thin barrel makes a 5 shot group spread but even at 300 yds, I'm under 1 MOA on the first two shots of a three shot group. It is very light and I kicked myself for not going lighter many years before. This is just one example of some very light hunting rifles. For a predator round rifle like the 22-250, most of the big names have a light-weight rifle. Just ditching the bull barrel on most 22-250 rifles shaves a lot of weight. I had a stainless Tika in 223 that was also very light and very accurate. They are out there even in these times. You just have to browse the classifieds, auctions and LGS and above all, stay the hell away from Gunbroker!!!!!

If you can find a Howa I think you should consider one. Very lightweight and accurate as hell.

    I appreciate the responses.

    Went with a Sako Carbonlight ... 5# ... what a difference.
