Cool Free fishing license proposal for veterans 🎣

Fishing licenses could soon be free for veterans. It's part of a mental health recovery bill that was recently approved by the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee.

Are they going to raise the fees for the rest of us to cover that?

Go ahead. I would gladly pay more. A fishing license is still a great value.

I think fishing should be free for everyone. Who the hell is the government to step in and make you pay a fee to satisfy a basic human need, i.e., to eat? Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he has to pay The Man first or else starve.

So who pays for the annual restocking of trout and other over-harvested sport/food species?

It*s popular to elevate veterans to special status, worthy of extra perks. However, unless you*re a combat veteran, then you aren*t worthy of anything special.

Full disclosure: I have veteran status, but am not a combat veteran.

Don't know about now but active and reserve military hunted and fished for free in NJ when I lived there. That was 40 years ago.
