I have asked LEO's about this type of situation and the consensus seems to be that you are not really in trouble unless/until you refuse to leave when the lawman tells you to leave. They really don't want to do any extra paperwork and their desire is to get you to leave with the least amount of inconvenience.

Slings on shotguns are as old as shotguns themselves. I had one made up for my over and under modeled after the ones used in the Godfather by the body guards when Michael went to Sicily to hide after he killed the Police Captain and the Capo Sollozzo.

BUt sometimes the stuff is not what it was claimed to be.

Example; I had an Amazon order delivered like this:
    Attachment 143603
I recently returned a small engine that I ordered, because the "brand new" engine smelled strongly of gasoline, the gas line was discolored from use, and it had been dropped so that the plastic throttle knob was snapped off and metal parts nearby were bent, but the packaging was all intact.

They pretty clearly stuffed a used, broken engine into the box and shipped it to me. So back it went. This was from Amazon.

There are times when returning something is appropriate and this certainly is one of those times.
