If you reload the same bullet in and out of the chamber, that mark stops the bullet from going into the case. That is not only dangerous, but could cause a catastrophic failure, when you need it the most. See Murphy's law. Since people tend to save self defense ammo, for self defense, you need to keep an eye out for it.

I have read much discussion on gun forums about the "cannelure" marks on cases does.

Some cases have 2. some cases have it halfway down that us no near where the bullet seats.

Most conclusions were it has less to do with bullet setback than it does with identifying the cases.

    I don't know. just what I read.

That chambered, defensive round always get sent down range, as my first shot. The defensive round mag gets set aside until done at the range, or if I intend on cleaning the gun when I get home.

Who am I kidding, it's a Glock. They don't need to be cleaned.

It is entirely possible that Federal has decided that the feature is not necessary. It is also entirely possible that it is absolutely true.

I don't work for Federal, but it's important to understand that sometimes "belts and suspenders" type manufacturing processes get paired down in the name of efficiency. Federal isn't in the business of losing money.

The mark was put on there to let you know not to reload those cases. Not putting that line around the cases is a direct benefit to reloaders. See the ammunition and reloading thread where it is explained in full detail. Straight wall pistol cartridges should be properly taper crimped. I finally got rid of every single last one of the Federal blow out at the cannelure cases.

This. I never even gave it a thought, until someone pointed it out on the forum.

I pulled all my ammo of my gun and looked. Didn*t need calipers, I could easily see that the bullets had been showed farther back in the casing from chambering multiple times. It changed my
Firearms handling practices, and I almost never unloaded my pistols now for this reason.

I have heard of the case splits.
I haven't experienced it myself. yet.
There was a lot of talk about it amongst the cowboy action shooters.

Never saw nor heard of a case splitting at the "cannelure" (which I doubt is a proper term for it). Saw plenty of wadcutter-reloaded .38s split down from the mouth for a bit. That's the signal that the case is history. Understand, those loads are mild target loads that are forgiving of a lot.

Another first today for me...that the cannelure is a message not to reload that case. I guess I haven't read enough over my rather extended lifetime.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
