You need a driver's license with the name change already on it. They'll issue you a new card with a new picture on it.

Here's a reason she may not want to change it just yet.

My wife got her license before we got married so it had her maiden name on it. About a year after we were married, she had to take the Series 7 test to renew her broker's license which was also in her maiden name. The proctor asked for ID but her driver's license had her married name on it and he said he could not let her take the test without an ID showing her maiden name. All nervous and all she rummaged through her handbag and found her LTCF (the old paper style at that) and asked if that was ok. He looked at it and said "Gun permit, yeah, that works" and let her take the test.

A marriage license should have sufficed.

Anyway, the OP's wife first needs to go to the driver's license place and have her name change.

She can reapply for another LTCF, or wait until the current LTCF expires, then renew.

Possibly, but how many women would think to carry their marriage license with them?
