    Did the police lose it?

Not to derail, but a funny (luckily) story.

Acquaintance's wife is driving to Canada via NYS. Realizes she has a handgun in the vehicle. Pulls over at a rest area and calls NY state police. 'We'll send someone right over.' Trooper tells her, 'You don't know how lucky you are that you got me today. Most I know would arrest you right now. You should have pulled over at a bridge and just thrown it in a ditch.' Takes the gun and her info, telling her it will be shipped back to a local FFL.

About a month later it arrives, and she goes to pick it up. Wrong gun. Next day the trooper calls, very embarrassed. FFL ships gun back to NY state police, and they ship the correct one to the FFL. All's well that end well.

Police lose a gun, no big deal. Law abiding citizens build and buy 80% kits , end of the world ban them now! If this was a normal person in NY wouldn't they get arrested for losing their gun?

A couple of years ago in Olean, NY a trooper left one on the trunk lid and drove off. It hasn't been found. Probably a similar situation here.

Wow she was lucky. Obviously got a trooper that takes his oath seriously. Should have buried it somewhere and picked it up in the way back. That's my plan if I ever start traveling to NJ with my spare mags in the car unintentionally and get too far to double back.

Two things I could never bust someone for: having a clearly legally purchased firearm but not being familiar with the local draconian law, and first time offending kids with a half gram of weed that weren't little assholes.
