    Default S&W 916A

So one of these followed me home on an impulse buy. 20" barrel, extended tube. Police/riot type gun.
Now I'm researching and getting all kind of reviews, from it's a piece of shit to it runs flawless. Does anyone have one? Good, bad or ugly?
If it's reliable it would make a good HD gun. If not I'll chalk it up to another bad impulse buy.
For what it's worth it says made in USA and has the S&W logo on it.

I actually do not have one, but I have done a bit of research. Seems that the ones with the biggest problems were the 916T (as in take down). They were recalled because of barrels bursting. Reading through the forums makes me think of Taurus in the 1990s, if it was a good one it was great, if it was made on a bad day or by somebody with a hangover you had a lemon.

That's my take on the reviews also. It's a nice looking gun, balances and fits well. I guess I need to take it out and shoot it and see what happens.

The 916's have a pretty mixed reputation at a time when S&W wanted to dominate the LEA market with not only pistols, but shotguns, handcuffs, ammo, boots, everything. Unfortunately the 916 soured departments on S&W scatterguns, so when S&W released the Model 3000 shotgun, most departments ignored it. Which is a shame since it's a nice Howa-made 870 clone that improved the design by figuring out how to prevent a shell from getting jammed on the carrier.
