    You have a point.

Car owner facing gun charges after fatally shooting theft suspect, Philadelphia police say

Police had originally said the incident was being investigated as an attempted carjacking and that the owner of the vehicle Steve Thompson, 54, appeared to be licensed to carry.

Authorities now say that Thompson was not licensed to carry the firearm used in the shooting. Thompson was arrested and charged with weapons offenses.

Many cities do not have data on carjackings readily available, as police departments will often categorize these crimes as robberies or assaults. It's difficult to understand the scope of the problem at a national level because the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting program, which law enforcement agencies voluntarily submit their crime data to, does not track carjackings.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An attempted carjacking suspect was seriously injured after a pizza delivery driver fought back against his attacker on Thursday night.

It happened around 7:38 p.m. when the 39-year-old delivery driver was dropping off food on the 3300 block of H Street in the city's Kensington section.

Police say the delivery driver was approached by a 23-year-old man who pointed a gun at the male victim and demanded he get out of the car.

The victim, who police say has a license to carry, grabbed his own gun and shot the suspect six times.

42nd near Pine is University City, so not 'hood but right in the middle of all those little UofP cash cows.

The brother of GOP lieutenant governor candidate Clarice Schillinger is among the latest victims of Philadephia's carjacking surge. It was still dark when Cody Burkett pulled into a parking space on 42nd Street near Pine Street at 5:30 a.m. Friday. A carpenter who is doing work at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, he arrived early to get a parking space for the day, he said.

With some time to spare before work, Burkett, 30, leaned his car seat back and dozed off. The next thing he knew someone was banging on the window of his 2003 Jetta. "The guy was beating on the window, cursing at me, telling me to get out of my car," said Burkett. "I was confused at first. I wasn't sure what was going on. I was stunned."

"I was scared but I was thinking it was more of a joke, but then I realized it was definitely real life," said Burkett. "I wasn't dreaming."

The robber told him he had a gun and had his hand in the pocket of his sweatshirt so it appeared that he might have a weapon, although Burkett did not see a gun.

But he did get out of his car, grabbed some of his belongings, and took the key out of the ignition just as he always did. The perpetrator told him to put it back in. Burkett said that he was "definitely" afraid.

CLAYMONT, Del. - Authorities in Delaware are investigating a pair of carjackings that happened outside two different Wawa locations. According to investigators, two women were sitting outside the convenience store on the 2600 block of Philadelphia Pike early Saturday morning when a pair of suspects ripped open the door.
Less than 24-hours earlier, police said a 63-year-old woman was pumping her gas at a Wawa along the Brookhaven Plaza when three men in ski masks stole her keys and took off in her black 2011 Chevy Malibu.

As a reminder, from last May -

According to authorities, the 41-year-old man was attempting to exit the parking lot of the McDonald's at 2702 Philadelphia Pike in Claymont around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, when an unknown man appeared at the driver's side window pointing a gun at him.

The suspect ordered the victim out of the vehicle, but as the suspect got in, the victim was able to retrieve a bat from his trunk and swung it at the suspect, who dropped his handgun and fled on foot northbound along Philadelphia Pike.

The suspect was described as a black teen wearing all dark clothing, roughly 16 or 17 years old, standing 5' 7" to 5' 8" and weighing between 120 and 130 lbs.

Police are investigating an officer-involved crash that left one officer hospitalized late Monday night. It happened just before midnight at 57th and Arch Streets. Police say officers were attempting to stop a Chevrolet Malibu that was wanted in a previous carjacking near the intersection. The vehicle rear-ended the officer's cruiser then crashed nearby on Walnut Street. The driver also struck two parked cars in their attempt to get away. Two suspects fled the scene on foot and have not been apprehended at this time.

The ordeal began shortly before 8 p.m. Monday on the 1800 block of Germantown Avenue. Police on patrol spotted a Kia Sorento that was carjacked at a car dealership in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, last Thursday. During Thursday's incident, a man took a 2022 Kia Sorento for a test drive and then carjacked the car salesman at gunpoint, telling him, *Get out of the car or I*m going to shoot you right now. I*m taking your car.*

When the officers tried to pull over the Sorento Monday night, the driver fled the scene, police said. Both police vehicles on the ground as well as a police helicopter pursued the suspect.

A carjacking suspect crashed into a vehicle, stole the car after throwing the driver out, crashed into a second vehicle and then fled on foot before he was finally captured by police during a wild chase through the streets of Philadelphia that was caught on video by SkyForce10.
