Default Tommybuilt Tactical T36 declared a Machine gun by ATF

If you own a Tommybuilt Tactical T 36 (a semi auto version of the H&K G36) You might want to go to their website for further instructions. The ATF has just declared their T36 and T36 receiver a machine gun. The manufacturer, Tommybuilt Tactical states that it will remedy the problem for an upgrade for the fee of $225.00. Here is a report from the Loadout blog website.

Yesterday, on social media information was circulating that TommyBuilt Tactical had received a letter from the ATF. In that potential letter the ATF classified TommyBuilt Tactical T36 receiver as a machinegun receiver.
Upon researching the matter I found out that it is true. The ATF has informed TommyBuilt that their T36 receiver is now classified as a machinegun.
Making it illegal for average firearm owner to possess.

TommyBuilt legal team has attempted to work with and comply with the ATF mandated requirements for the T36 platform. TommyBuilt has a now made upgrades to the receiver that is approved by ATF. Those upgrades include a semi-automatic receiver with a more restrictive locking block, a newly required auto sear block, and various upgrades.
TommyBuilt has advised owners of a T36 that the ATF has no current intent to charge the owner for the possession of the now contraband item, or to prosecute TommyBuilt Tactical. TommyBuilt is offering T36 owners the ability to upgrade their T36 receiver to the TG36 for a price of $225. You will have to send in your receiver to have the upgrades done. Anyone who is not in compliance and found with a T36 by the ATF face to potential seizure of said contraband.Below, is the complete press release from TommyBuilt Tactical in regards to the reclassification of the T36 receiver.

    Dear TommyBuilt Tactical T36 Owner:
Greetings. We hope that you are enjoying your TommyBuilt Tactical T36, and want to thank you for your patronage.
With that said, we have received unfortunate news that the receiver of the T36 will now be classified by ATF as a machinegun receiver. ATF has recently determined that the blocks and restrictions manufactured into our semi-automatic receiver (which are a replica of the SL8 prevention method) are not sufficient and now require an auto sear block on this platform. We disagree with this position but do not make the regulatory decisions.
To this end, we at TommyBuilt Tactical are eager to work with our T36 owners and with the ATF to comply with the newly mandated requirements for this platform. Our counsel and team have met with our regulator to make attempts to resolve this issue. TommyBuilt Tactical has made and had approved by the ATF an upgraded semi-automatic receiver including more restrictive blocks, the newly required auto sear block and other various upgrades.
So we are clear, there is no current intent by ATF to criminally charge any TommyBuilt Tactical T36 owner for the possession of contraband, or to prosecute TommyBuilt Tactical for any wrongdoing. To this end, my team and I have been authorized by ATF to replace the existing T36 receivers with an upgraded “TG36” receiver. There will be a minimal cost to you of $225 to upgrade to the new TG36. It is critical that you send your receiver to me for an upgrade. The ATF has made it clear that if your T36 is not returned for upgrade to the TG36, it will be considered contraband and subject to seizure.
Once seized you will lose your entire T36 assembly. The resolution that we are offering will allow you to keep ALL of your components in an upgraded state at a minimal cost.
We are a small business and already overwhelmed. This unexpected determination is a substantial financial hardship for us all. Please refer to our website (www.tommybuilttactical.com) for more details on this situation and instructions on exactly how to send in your receiver for replacement.
Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

I've always liked the G36 rifle and was happy to see that Tommybuilt was bringing a semi auto clone to the market but their pricing is too much for me to stomach....as for ATF's demands, that was pretty much how they handled the MP5 clones as well.

So the fuller story is that someone tried to import in HK243 rifles (HK's newest civilian G36 rifle, the previous one being the SL8), and was denied by the ATF for being too easy to convert to full auto. The importer then pointed to the (previously approved) TommyBuilt T36 which used the same full auto block as the HK243 and (previously approved) HK SL8.
