Re: GMRS 2021
There is all kinds of info here
I am not affiliated, but I have purchased a couple of sets of radios from them over the years. Lots of info available.
From your post I would recommend the Midland GXT1000VP4. It has good range for FRS/GMRS hand-helds. I have the prior version GXT900VP4 (obsolete) that I use all summer on my motorcycle. Some of the groups I lead use Chatterbox, $200-300, my GXT900 sits on my dash and I can talk to them by connecting it through my intercom. And it's JIS4 water resistant.Marty near God's Country. Making good people defenseless doesn’t make bad people harmless.

Re: GMRS 2021
Keep in mind that most Baofengs and other ham band capable radios are only part 97 legal. This means that even if you have a GMRS license, you are not permitted to use the Baofengs on GMRS frequencies. To be totally legal, radios transmitting on FRS/GMRS frequencies must be FCC Part 95 approved.

Re: GMRS 2021
you didn't read it did you? the last statement "must be FCC Part 95 approved." covers it, if the model is not approved, it's not legal to transmit with.
For the OP, I concur with the others, and had I seen this before you applied I would have mentioned the pending price drop. The Midlands will be your best legal option, backed up by a CB for longer range communications.

Re: GMRS 2021
At one point, I believe they were shipping some models that were marked with Part 95 acceptance marks, but there was scuttlebutt that it was bogus markings, as I believe Part 95 has strict power limits and permanent antenna requirements that the Baofengs obviously do not meet.
Having said all that, I have yet to hear about anyone being prosecuted for using CCRs on the FRS/GMRS bands.

Re: GMRS 2021
Thanks for all the input folks.
I wanted to keep it simple, almost clicked buy it now on one of the cheaper bubble pack Midlands. I have a handheld CB from Midland I'm happy with it, for a hand held anyway.
So I went a bit more expensive than I had planned on and ordered two of these. Wouxun KG-805G.
