    Machine Guns trump all
    SBR/SBS trump AOW
    NFA trumps pistol
    Pistol trumps rifle
That's actually a pretty good summation I think.

Oh and 2nd Amendment trumps all gun control laws, but people seem to forget that.

    I like all the Trumps.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

You fans of "paperwork" make things so freaking complicated.

Buy virgin stripped lower - FTF.
    Build pistol.
    Done.

Wanna make it a carbine later? No problem.
Wanna change your mind and make it a pistol in a different caliber? No problem.

Keep things simple and you don't have to sweat the details.

Again, we were specifically discussing AR style SBR's and SBR's made as you described might be looked at completely different by the NFA Division.

This is the problem nowadays, there are too many varieties of things you can to with firearms that just can't be easily taken into account. If you could supply me with a citation about your example, I would love to have it to have it on file.
I guess you take legal advice from regular cops on the street too...... you dont form1 a rifle into a pistol it becomes a sbr, whether it has a stock or not. It doesnt matter if ots an ar15 ak47 , mauser , whatever.

If I take a mauser and chop the barrel and stock to make an "obrez" it is still a sbr (technically "weapon made from rifle" but still falls under sbr) so once its registered as sbr you do whatever you want ie , stock, no stock, whatever barrel length, foregrip.
SBR and Weapon made from a Rifle are separate classifications. SBR is designed to be fired from the shoulder. What you described cannot be fired from the shoulder.

I ordered a completed AR pistol lower back in August of last year and it was transferred as an "other", at the time the FFL said that is how the ATF said it must be done since it did not have an upper receiver.

I ordered another completed AR pistol lower last week and when the same FFL holder called to arrange for me to pick it up he now wants to know if I have an upper to go with it and how long the barrel is.

    Has something changed?

That FFL has NO need for that information - NOLTHING has changed, the complete AR LOWER is still transferred on thge 4473 as an OTHER.
